Summary: Quadruplex service drop cable are constructed with three aluminum conductors, black extruded cross-linked polyethylene insulation, and a bare aluminum neutral.
Description
Quadruplex service drop cable Construction:
constructed with three aluminum conductors, black extruded cross-linked polyethylene insulation, and a bare aluminum neutral.
Conductors: concentrically stranded, compressed 1350-H19 aluminum.
Insulation: Insulated with either polyethylene or crosslinked polyethylene (XLP).
Neutral messengers: concentrically stranded 6201, AAC, or ACSR.
Core identification: Conductors are manufactured with ridges for phase identification (one conductor one ridge, one conductor two ridges, one conductor plain.)
Quadruplex service drop cable reference standards:
B-230 Aluminum Wire, 1350-H19 for Electrical Purposes
• B-231 Aluminum Conductors, Concentric-Lay-Stranded
• B-232 Aluminum Conductors, Concentric-Lay-Stranded,
Coated Steel Reinforced (ACSR)
• B-399 Concentric-Lay-Stranded, 6201-T81 Aluminum Alloy Conductors
• B-901 Compressed Round Stranded Aluminum Conductors Using Single
Input Wire
• ANSI/ICEA S-76-474
Quadruplex service drop cable application:
Used to supply 3 phase power, usually from a pole mounted transformer or secondary power line to the user’s service head where connection to the service entrance cable is made.
Quadruplex service drop cable features:
The black extruded cross-linked polyethylene insulation can protect the cable from temperatures as high as 90°C. The XLPE insulation also ensures this service drop wire is protected against a variety of outside forces including weather, abrasion, chemicals, cutting, and tearing. This allows for continued use of triplex wire in various harsh outdoor environments.

Notes:
Code words for XLPE insulated products are formed by adding "XLPE" to the conventional polyethylene code words above (e.g.- Pica/XLPE).
Ampacity figures for black insulation only. Based on conductor temperature of 75 ºC for polyethylene insulated conductors, 90 ºC for XLPE insulated conductors, ambient temperature of 40 ºC 2 ft./sec. wind in sun.
