Triplex Service Drop Cable
Tags : overhead triplex service drop cable,Aluminum Service Drop Cable,Secondary Service Drop Conductor
Summary: Triplex service cable contains three individual wires twisted around each other: two insulated conductors called the "hot" legs of the service and a bare or uninsulated wire which is the neutral wire of the service.
Description
Triplex service cable is usually used for overhead single phase service to supply power from the utility's lines to the consumer's weatherhead. It contains three individual wires twisted around each other: two insulated conductors called the "hot" legs of the service and a bare or uninsulated wire which is the neutral wire of the service. It also features a black extruded cross-linked polyethylene insulation, which can protect the cable from temperatures as high as 90°C. The XLPE insulation also ensures this service drop wire is protected against a variety of outside forces including weather, abrasion, chemicals, cutting, and tearing. This allows for continued use of triplex wire in various harsh outdoor environments.
Triplex service cable Wire Construction:
Conductors are concentrically stranded, compressed 1350-H19 aluminum. Insulated with either polyethylene or crosslinked
polyethylene (XLP). Neutral messengers are concentrically stranded 6201, AAC, or ACSR.
Triplex service cable Wire reference standards:
B-230 Aluminum Wire, 1350-H19 for Electrical Purposes
• B-231 Aluminum Conductors, Concentric-Lay-Stranded
• B-232 Aluminum Conductors, Concentric-Lay-Stranded,
Coated Steel Reinforced (ACSR)
• B-399 Concentric-Lay-Stranded, 6201-T81 Aluminum Alloy Conductors
• B-901 Compressed Round Stranded Aluminum Conductors Using Single
Input Wire
• ANSI/ICEA S-76-474
Triplex service cable Application:

Specifications
Triplex service cable technical parameters Notes:
Code words for XLP insulated products are formed by adding ""XLP"" to the conventional polyethylene code words above (e.g.- Pica/XLP). Ampacity figures for black insulation only. Based on conductor temperature of 75 ºC for polyethylene insulated conductors, 90 ºC for XLP insulated conductors, ambient temperature of 40 ºC 2 ft./sec. wind in sun.
